Museums

There are several museums and galleries located in Goa which reflects both state's heritage as well as reflects it's hidden beauty. Some of the major museums as well galleries which one must visit have been listed below:- 

GOA STATE MUSEUM
The State of Goa has got long historical and cultural tradition. The State Museum of Goa is set up, with the aim at centralizing and preserving antiquities, art objects and objects of cultural importance, throwing light on the ancient historical and cultural traditions of Goa and exhibiting them thematically, so as to depict different aspects of the Goan History and Culture.
The Museum, at present has in its possession a fairly large collection which is increasing day by day. The Museum, was set up on small scale in 1977 at St.Inez, Panaji. After construction of this present building the same was shifted here and this new Museum Complex at Patto was inaugurated by the then President Of India on 18th June 1996.


NAVAL AVIATION MUSEUM
The first naval museum in Asia was inaugurated at Dabolim, Vasco in 1998 and opened for public from the 19th Oct 1998. The museum showcases the history of Indian Naval Aviation, various aircrafts, weapons, sensors, safety equipment, rare photographs depicting Goa's liberation and artifacts (also spelt as artefacts). 
A multimedia games section is an added attraction. Situated in the picturesque backdrop of the Bogmalo beach, the museum has become a must-visit place for all tourists. 


ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM AND POTRAIT GALLERY
The museum has been functioning since 1964 in the abandoned convent of St. Francis of Assisi and is maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). The collection consists of Brahmanical sculptures hero-stones and sati stones of the early and late medieval periods, portraits, coins and currency, revenue and court fee stamps, wooden and bronze sculptures and armoury of the Portuguese period. 

GOA CHITRA
Goa chitra is a unique collection and display of traditional farming implements and other ancient tools of trade set against the backdrop of a traditional organic farm.   Beginning with the original 200 privately collected items, the collections have now grown to more than 4,000 objects on display.  The museum nevertheless preserves its universality in its collections of artefacts representing the culture of ancient Goa.  Each of the artefacts is supplemented by information that was collected in situ by interviewing the elder members of the community and through the study of its application in daily life. 

ASHVEK VINTAGE




Ashvek Vintage World is a vintage car museum situated in NuvemSalcete, Goa.  It is Goa's first and only vintage car museum that showcases over a dozen vintage cars sourced from Goa or neighbouring areas like Kholapur, Belgam and Sawantwadi.  At the vintage car museum one can see models such as the Chevrolet Fleet master that was popular in 1930's America as Mafia staff car, a Mercedes Benz 170 of the 1939 vintage, which was actually used in the movie Sea Wolves Morris Van Essex (1924), a Ford V8, a Peugeot 301, an Austin 1928 and the Morris 8.
